My *almost* mother-in-law spends a week at Miraval every January with a huge group of her girlfriends and I cannot think of a better way to kick off the year. Last year, she invited me and Max to come along the week before her friends arrived. Miraval is a destination spa in Arizona with a huge array of activities to choose from each day - hiking, yoga, spinning, mountain biking, meditation, cooking classes, ropes course challenges, luxurious spa treatments - even private sessions with a medium or a shaman! Or you can spend your day reading by the pool and indulge in the always available healthy meals, smoothies, and snacking options. That's the beauty of Miraval, you can make your time there whatever you want it to be. You can spend the week relaxing with spa treatments, taking classes, attending seminars and private sessions with a variety of experts. You can push yourself to new mental and physical challenges. But no matter how you spend it, everybody at Miraval is doing exactly what they want to do at any given time and that creates an atmophere of pure bliss.
Phones are forbidden in all public areas, but every room has free wifi. Surprisingly, this was one of my favorite parts of Miraval - the (forced) ability to disconnect from the outside world and be truly present at all times.
Miraval is a magical place. Their slogan is “Life in Balance" Balance is not something you find. It is something you create. And I am still working on building my balanced life. The Miraval team challenged me to do one thing that scares me every day and that alone has changed my entire year. I learned a lot about myself during my week there and I try to remind myself of those lessons when I am feeling overwhelmed or am not prioritizing my health.
A trip to Miraval was the perfect way to take time for myself and to focus on my goals, especially after the holidays during which I seemingly bounce between friends and families houses fueled by candy canes and a series of naps that do not add up to a good nights sleep.
Miraval, I hope to see you again soon! xo
